Drawbacks and risks
A hybrid system is more complex than a single heat source. Poor controls can cause the boiler to run too often, reducing the expected savings. Keeping a boiler also means continuing gas standing charges, servicing and potential repair costs.
Do not accept a hybrid proposal simply because the property is old or has radiators. A good installer should still complete a room-by-room heat-loss calculation, assess radiator output, check hot-water demand and explain why a hybrid is better than a full heat pump for this particular home.

Prices vary widely because some homes need a new heat pump, cylinder, controls, electrical work and radiator upgrades, while others can reuse more of the existing system.
